    Medical Evaluation and Consideration forSeven Radiation Workers Suspected of Overexposure

    A medical assessment of 7 workers suspected of receiving undue radiation was conducted through dose estimations, clinical observations, laboratory examinations, psychological assessments,etc. The causes for the incident were analyzed, and suggestions were made. It shows their estimated dose was normal. The symptom of dizziness was common, the laboratory examinations showed that the number of blood cells was normal, and the immune indexes of some workers were fluctuated. With a comprehensive analysis, it is believed that the workers are less likely to be overexposed, and the suspected incident was caused by human factors. In order to prevent the similar incidents, it is necessary for the company, to which they belong, to strengthen personal radiation protection measures, training and management of radiation workers.

    Medical institutions should have its emergency response capability for undertaking regional rescue tasks for nuclear emergency. By analyzing the basic components and index requirements of this capability, the modules, elements and paths of building a proper hospital system are studied. Medical establishments need to develope a sound system support for such a rescue mission, namely a framework composed of personnel, equipments, facilities, plans, training and technical modules, with sustained training preparation and technical level maintenance.

    In order to understand the exposure situation of radiological staff in non-military medical institutions in Changzhou, a retrospective analysis of dose monitoring results for external radiation in 2017—2018 was conducted. It shows that: 1) The annual average dose is lower than the national standard limit of 5 mSv/a; 2) The monitoring rate and protective effectiveness were higher in municipal than district level institutions; 3) A descending order of annual average dose was found as follows: nuclear medicine,following order other X-ray radiological diagnostic department, X-ray radiological diagnostic department, oral related X-ray radiological diagnostic department, interventional radiology department, and radiotherapy department. It is concluded that protection measures of medical radiation staff in non-military medical institutions in Changzhou are relatively complete, while the district-managed grassroots and private medical institutions still need to strengthen their management and improve the self-protection awareness of their radiation staff.

    The construction of medical digitized X-ray photography system (DR) rooms must meet the national standards for clinical uses.     According to the characteristics of radiation injury caused by nuclear accidents, the action points of protection and the requirements of medical emergency rescue are analyzed.The protective measures in early, middle and late stage of accidents/incidents, and the emergency capacity building path,are then put forward, which can provide guidance for troops to deal with nuclear threats scientifically.

    Radiation monitoring is very important for medical rescue in nuclear accidents. To do it good, we should focus on mastering the relevant knowledge of radiation protection, be proficient in the correct use of radiation monitoring equipments, and correctly analyze the results of radiation monitoring. By analyzing the importance of radiation monitoring, we put forward some suggestions on how to do a good job in radiation monitoring for medical rescue in nuclear accidents.

    From July 2011 to October 2012, we monitored the indoor radon level in 6 key cities in Xinjiang, with both accumulative and instantaneous measurement methods used. The data was then analyzed on classifications such as location, building year, floor, and ground decoration materials.The survey has resulted in a basic database and a preliminarily grasp of the overall indoor radon distribution in Xinjiang. This can provide a basis for the decision-making of environmental protection and construction industry management authorities.

    The research progress of the reproductive toxicity of depleted uranium to rodents and humans, is reviewed, including the severity of reproductive organ damage, the development trend, the genetic damage, action modes, related mechanisms and research methods. Studies have shown that depleted uranium exposure damages the reproductive and genetic functions of rodents and humans at multiple levels.

    The organization development and equipment R&D for nuclear emergency in the United States, Japan, Northern Europe and other countries, are briefly reviewed. The current situation of medical emergency rescue organization building for nuclear accidents in China is also introduced. It is expected to provide reference for the capacity building of military medical rescue organizations for nuclear emergency.
