Radwaste treatment processes at Sanmennuclear power plant are presented, which include a passive airborne waste process, a liquid waste process with online and offline systems combined, and also aprocess for solid waste. The latter is designed as a set of centralized treatment systems that separately collect waste in the fore-end and share a super compactor and grouting/cementation device in the back-end.

    RADIATION PROTECTION BULLETIN. 2015, 35(2):  7-12.
    Abstract ( 37 )   PDF (579KB) ( 117 )

The regulation and relevant technicalbasis on emergency evacuation time estimates of American NPPs is studied, and the development and methodology of NPP surrounding population evacuation time analysis is illustrated. By comparing different calculation methods, the factors that influence the emergency evacuation time can be identified. With an American NPP taken as an example, the calculation code and processes are introduced. Some suggestions are put forward for NPP surrounding population evacuation time estimate in China.
A Study on Gene Expression of CDKN1A from Human Peripheral Blood Induced by 60Co γ-rays

To explore the effect of ionizing radiation on CDKN1A gene expression in human peripheral blood, blood samples were exposed to 60Co γ-rays at different doses. The resulted CDKN1A mRNA expression change was observed by real time PCR. For a dose of 0~2 Gy, the relationship between the CDKN1A-dose represents certain line correlation. A linear regression equation(Y=0.8465+1.1015D,R=0.93,p<0.01) and curvilinear regression equation (Y=0.6273+3.0883D-0.7485D2,R=0.96,p<0.05) has been obtained using regression analysis methods. γ-ray can induced CDKN1A gene expression changed and increase dose-dependently, but the stabilityof regression equation should be tested further.

With respect to contaminations commonly found in the primary loop and auxiliary systems of PWR NPPs, typical in-service chemical decontamination technologies in the world are briefly reviewed, including HP/CORD-UV, AP-CITROX, CAN-DEREM, LOMI, and E MMAC. The formulation, process, material compatibility, waste treatment, and potential risk related are carefully evaluated. Suggestions are provided for the development and applicationof these technologies.

In order to meet the continuous development demand of nuclear and radiation environmental protection in the new situation, and to further enhance the capability of nuclear and radiation environmental monitoring and supervision, the Ministry of Environmental Protection (former State Environmental Protection Administration) organized and implemented more than 10 major capability building projects on nuclear and radiation monitoring during the "Tenth-Five", "Eleventh-Five" and "Twelfth-Five" periods. Project management is strictly implemented in the whole process. This paper summarized the experiences involved. The strategies for application of advanced project management methods are also discussed preliminarily, combined with the international development direction and China's actual situation.

A survey of environment radioactivityin and around a uranium enrichment area of approximately 700 km2 in GuangdongProvince has been made. The result shows that the gamma radiation dose rate is far higher than the provincial natural radioactivity level. 238U, 232Th, 226Ra in some soil samples are more concentrated than thebackground in Guangdong. There is a river with too higher content of radionuclide, of which U is 15.7 times than the reported value for Beijiang River in the province. The U concentration in effluents from some uranium ore occurrences anda hydrometallurgy factory exceeds the nuclear industrial limit.

Some codes have been introduced from western countries since 1980s, as an important tool for radioactive material transport consequence assessment. There isn't, however, a homemade code with independent intellectual property rights in China. Program design of code CRAMTRA in this respect is presented, with its physical model, flow chart and UML diagram included. This lays a solid basis for its code development.
