Abstract: We analyze the running costs for operations and outages, with respect to the two access modes in controlled areas of nuclear power plants. The use of protective equipments, the production of liquid waste from cleaning protective equipments and the production of solid waste are all taken into account. The analysis shows that the running cost for the EVEREST mode is lower than that for the traditional "Seven-piece-set" mode, whether during operations or outages. For typical daily operations, the running cost for EVEREST accounts for only about one third of that for " Seven-piece-set " mode.
