Abstract: The process areas for dry storage of spent fuel in PWR, i.e. preparation, transportation and storage, were investigated with respect to equipment, processes, operating environment and potential hazards. Factors on critical safety, containment of radioactive substances, decay heat removal and radiation protection of dry storage facilities were analyzed in detail. The specific prevention and control countermeasures were then proposed. On the other side, the safe operation and management experience for heavy water reactor dry fuel storage in Qinshan No.3 NPP was summarized. These findings couldprovide ideas for solving the safety issues related to the planning, design, construction and operation of PWR dry fuel storage facilities.
