Abstract: Nuclear security is an important part of national security, with the main task of preventing illegal theft and use of nuclear materials as well as nuclear terrorist attacks. In recent years, with development and progress of technology, the continuous reduction of manufacturing costs, and the growth of application models, the consumption of drones has rapidly strengthened. This has led to the increasing availability of drones, and occasional incursions of drones into sensitive facilities. The impact of drones on the security of critical infrastructure, such as nuclear facilities, poses a challenge to the security of nuclear materials and facilities, and has attracted common concern in the industry. The China Atomic Energy Agency, as the competent authority for nuclear security, pays attention to the impact of drones on nuclear security, has formulated relevant standards for drone defense systems at nuclear facilities, and encouraged nuclear facility operators to establish drone detection and disposal measures to respond to intrusion of drones. However, as an excellent basic platform, the prospect of drones reasonably applied to the nuclear field, is also very broad, which can greatly improve work efficiency and safety level. We introduce herein the malicious use, prevention and response, and normal application of drones respectively, and then discuss some ideas about drone management.
